Kew Gardens - Orchid Festival

Orchids

Recently I visited Kew gardens in London to see the Orchids, this year the theme was Cameroon, the first time an African nation had been featured

Kew Gardens - Orchid Festival

Kew Gardens in the last few years have had an orchid festival, celebrating orchids from different countries, this year it featured the Cameroon, the first time an African nation had been featured.

The festival is in the Princess of Wales Conservatory which is home to the Cactus and other plants

The Flowers are put in displays with animals and arches. The Orchids are beautiful and lovely with the animals are great and certainty draw people to them.

The structures are all hand crafted from plants and orchids. these included a Lion, Giraffe, Hippos, Birds and Gorillas

This exhibition is def a photographers paradise, you can use your phone camera or a macro lens on your bridge style camera.

There was a photograph display of the Bikoka Art Project, showcasing the photography of young people and women from the rural area of Lolodorf in Cameroon, which was interesting to see. There was also music to which made it very much feel you were in Africa

There is also a piece on the Kew website explaining the conservation work going on top protect the secrets of Cameroon

I enjoyed our visit although short as we had timed tickets, which have to be booked online. We also went round the rest of Kew Gardens which I will write in another post!

In there is a small selection of Orchids gifts, soft toys and Kew Gifts. There is also a film explaining about the orchids which I had not the time to watch
